This client had a clear goal: give her staircase a modern update without clashing with the Black Walnut inlays already built into her home. That meant every new piece we introduced had to be chosen and finished with her existing materials in mind, not just installed on its own terms.

We stained Red Oak posts, caps, false treads, and rails to closely match the tone of her Black Walnut inlays, so the new work reads as part of the original design rather than an obvious addition. For the barrier rails, we used 5/8 inch round tubing, a clean, minimal line that keeps the focus on the wood and the view through the staircase rather than on the railing itself.
