Opening Up a Staircase, Bringing It Up to Code
This staircase was boxed in by upper pony walls that closed off light and made the space feel smaller than it was. We removed those walls along with the original staircase rails, opening up sightlines from the entry straight through to the upper floor.

Opening a staircase up isn’t just a design choice, it’s a structural one. Our team reframed the mid and lower curved sections from the ground up to bring the staircase fully up to code. From there, every wood part except the balusters was manufactured, pre-finished, sealed, and installed by our own crew, so the finished staircase is as sound as it looks.
